Saturday Champion Nets $75,000
Mechanicsburg – Williams Grove Speedway will celebrate the 62nd running of the annual Weis Markets National Open Presented By Sage Fruit for World of Outlaws sprint cars coming up this Friday and Saturday, October 4 and 5 at 7:30 pm each night
The National Open weekend will wrap up the 2024 racing season at Williams Grove Speedway with Saturday night’s 40-lap main event paying $75,000 to win.
Friday’s 25-lap National Open Preliminary will pay $12,000 to the winner.
Saturday’s event will culminate with the crowning of the 2024 Lawrence Chevrolet 410 sprint car track champion.
The prestigious Williams Grove Speedway Weis Markets National Open Presented By Sage Fruit has long been revered as the biggest sprint car show in the East and is one of the big three across the nation, measuring up only with the Knoxville Nationals and Kings Royal.
Anyone who is anyone in sprint car racing in the United States will be at Williams Grove this week for the two-day contest.
Drivers from across all sanctions and regions will compete to be National Open Champion.
The Williams Grove contingent will be led by Anthony Macri of Dillsburg, the winningest drivers this season at the oval with four triumphs to his credit and 15 overall on the year.
The 2016 Open champion, Danny Dietrich should also be in the mix along with Freddie Rahmer and Troy Wagaman Jr.
Top gun with the outlaws will be series point leader David Gravel, who scored the Summer Nationals at Williams Grove back in July and who also has two National Open titles under his belt.
One-time Open winner Carson Macedo, currently second in outlaws points, will also be on top of his game for the Open, having taken six of the last 13 outlaws series shows contested.
Buddy Kofoid on the other hand, now fourth in outlaws points, has taken four of the last seven shows and he too could be a factor in a quest for his first-ever Open title.
Other invaders that could make their mark during the weekend if they opt to compete include Brad Sweet, Rico Abreu, Tyler Courtney and Brent Marks.
Last year, Brent Marks scored the second Open title of his career in the Saturday finale, worth $75,000 but only after losing the early lead to both Justin Peck and Daryn Pittman before reclaiming the point to run to the win.
Brad Sweet won the opening night feature that was held over to Saturday night due to drizzle.
