FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Mechanicsburg – Williams Grove Speedway will present the premier sprint car event of the season in the east this Friday and Saturday, October 3 and 4, when it hosts the 52nd annual STP World of Outlaws National Open races.
Friday will find the historic oval hosting a full program of World of Outlaws sprint car racing complete with a 25-lap main event paying $8,000 to win before the big one takes center stage on Saturday.
Saturday’s 52nd annual World of Outlaws National Open will go the customary 40 laps with the winner going home with $50,000 in his coffers.
Qualifying time trials for both events will begin at 7:30 pm.
The two-day Williams Grove World of Outlaws vs. PA Posse stand will be the third match-up of the season at the oval between the two factions.
So far this season, it’s a tie game in outlaws vs. posse action at Williams Grove Speedway as circuit favorite Daryn Pittman swept a two-day stand in May before locals Greg Hodnett and Lance Dewease flew the posse colors high with a two-day sweep in July.
Local driver Fred Rahmer of Salfordville capped off his stellar career with his first and only win in the prestigious Williams Grove National Open main last October before retiring from the sport to become a car owner.
Rahmer’s mount will be in the Open field this season with veteran Stevie Smith at the wheel.
Throughout history, no other driver has ever won the Williams Grove National Open as many times as outlaws warrior Donny Schatz who put himself on top of the event win list by claiming the 2012 running of the classic event.
Schatz will enter the Williams Grove National Open weekend stand as the hottest driver on the outlaws tour in 2014, leading the point standings by a wide margin while also having accrued the most wins of any circuit driver this season.
Schatz is currently at 24 outlaws season wins and holding over his closest pursuer, Pittman who has 13 victories on the trail.
Schatz’s season win total of 24 to date is the most that the Midwest flyer has ever accumulated in one season during his illustrious career.
The local PA Posse drivers scored a sweep of National Open weekend action last season when Don Kreitz Jr. scored a popular defeat of the outlaws travelers in the Friday night National Open Preliminary before turning over bragging rights to Rahmer on Saturday for the big score.
Fireworks displays will be a part of both National Open races this weekend.
The National Open itself carries a raindate of October 5.
Adult general admission for Friday is $30 with youth admitted for just $15.
Admission prices for Saturday’s National Open are $35 for adults and $15 for youth.
And please remember, kids ages 12 and under are always admitted free at Williams Grove Speedway.
Gates open at 5 pm both nights.
